Jungle Marathon
I woke early this morning and checked the temperature in Brazil not bad - only 21 degrees. As I went for my run in sorts and vest I realised it was 4am in Brazil!
It may be cooler in Hell!
Now the dog is at her holiday retreat, my bags are packed, hotel is booked and all my travel documents are ready to go I have a few butterflies.
Keep up to date by checking the Jungle Marathon website.
Feel free to send me encouraging words - I may need a few!

Final Countdown
Only two days till the off!
Today will include fixing my dripping shower and packing, unpacking and repacking more than a few times.
Will has brought me a 30l pack to try rather than my 40l - lets see if I can get it all in!
At some point today I will need to try the flash new hammock and teach myself how to arrange the fly sheet. I think it will be important to be able to rig it up ASAP once I have finished each day. The last thing I need when I should be resting is discomfort or to be stressing about the basics.
Right - Plumbers merchants here I come.

Countdown
Only a few days to go and I'm crapping-it.com!
Last night it was dinner with Kaz just an excuse as I collected a few more pairs of fantastic socks. I came away with crushed nuts too! a whole bag of them.
Will delivered my new carbon fiber Black Diamond poles tonight. vert swish and very light.
The girls at the chemist asked if there was a way of following me online. Apparently they were very entertained by the Rickshaw Run blogs we did.
My good friend Preparation H is looking after the dog so she will be transfered at the weekend with clean bedding and loads of food. Not forgetting a photo of me.

Gorilla Run - The run
A bananas day!
The Gorilla run went very well although was a little warm.
I decided that my run would be a fun run and I wouldn't try to gain a good time.
As I passed other gorillas along the course I stopped to scare, have photos with and hat to tourists and workmen. Something went wrong because I still came in sooner than I should have done!
Once I had met Bill Oddie and collected my medal I made my way back down the course to motivate other runners. After a while I met Dave. Dave was stumbling down the road blacking out. You can't get 50 meters from the finish and not finish so I dragged him over the line and stuffed him in the ambulance before cheering more gorillas in.
Later in the day I ran into some Morph suit bananas who had missed the race. I did the decent thing and changed in to my furry suit and posed for photos.
Thanks to Lee for the photos

Failed Weekend?
With a total of only 10 hours sleep over Wednesday and Thursday nights, due to work, Will and I set off to attempt the Welsh 3000s on friday night.
After, a wet and very windy night, sleeping in the porch of the summit cafe on Snowdon, we set off at 8am on Saturday morning.
We stopped for breakfast at the Pen Y Pass cafe - top fry up and fun service!
Then it was of down the pass
Then it was of down the pass
The day brought rain, high wind, hail the size of peas and rest bite at times (but never from the wind).
We plodded along spending 30 minutes sleeping under the canopy of a toilet block before starting the accent of the second section.
Although we were both still going strong tiredness took me out and we had to escape into the land of nod for a few hours.
After 10 summits we descended for hot chocolate and buttys!
Home came after McDonalds and a sleep in Asda’s carpark.
We will be back to kick it into submission next summer.

Blue Man Night
Following HellRunner there was a dash for a shower and a bath and another shower. Once clean I slipped in to something more comfortable and went out with the lads!

Hellrunner September 10th 2011
After some TLC my ankle and lower leg had shown enough improvement to take part in HellRunner HellRunner yesterday .
I managed to complete the 11 mile course of tracks and the odd bog in around 2 hours.
Not breaking any records but not doing any damage in the process.
The intention is to change my trainers for the next 7 to 10 days until my ankle improves. I will try my mud claws again after that prior to making the final decision as to what to race in.

Hellrunner
A curry, half a bottle of wine and a whisky - is that a good prep for a 10/12 mile cross country run called Hellrunner?
It will have to do.
Tomorrow will tell!

Gorilla Run
Sponsorship for the gorilla run is going well but a few more quid are required before I reach my target.
My leg gets looked at tomorrow so with look I'll be fit to run again by Friday!

Training - lack of!
There has been a distinct lack of training for the Jungle Marathon! Why?
I ruined my right ankle doing the Coast 2 Coast in March and ended up at the hospital with wrecked tendons.
After the GR20 I had a dad left ankle! This is still giving me issues.
My dad has developed bone cancer.
Work is busy and
I can’t get motivated.
However...
I did complete the Long tour of Bradwell 33 miles and I am running regularly.
